My first Carrie concert was at York Fair in 2006. I was 10th row and as Carrie came out, everyone moved forward, so I followed. I made my way to the front right against the stage. I stood there in awe. It was so weird that she was standing right in front of me, smiling and waving to ME. I didn’t think that night could have gotten any better. That was until I found out I was going to meet her. I don’t remember what I said to her, I don’t remember what she said to me. It was all one big, awesome blur. The day before the concert I saw this thing on CMT about Faith Hill’s first concert. She saw Reba and when he met her she didn’t say a word. Once Faith left she screamed, “I love you Reba McEntire!” Reba turned around and said, “I love you too, kid.” So I tried it, screaming to Carrie I loved her … and nothing. Epic fail. On the way to the car I told every person I passed who I had just met. They looked at me as if I was talking in German.
A year passed and I found myself at York Fair in 2007 to see Carrie again. Everyone and their mother was waiting for Carrie to come out. Matthew (former asisstant) and Nikki (former backup singer) played jokes on us pretending that Carrie was in their bus sticking her head out the window or body parts which turned out to be Matthew. Matthew told us Carrie would be coming out soon. Apparently, soon to him means four hours. So after four hours of melting in the sun, Carrie comes out of her tour bus, waves, walks to a door, and leaves, as did everyone else. My dad, my sister, my friend, myself, a few Carrie fans, and an old man were left. Carrie comes back out with Matthew in front of her. He opens the bus door for her, she pushes the door closed and runs over to us. She signed my huge “Got Milk?” poster. My dad put it on the hood of someones car for her to sign and she says, “I hope they don’t mind! Oh gosh, will it bleed through onto the car?” My dad lifts it up and shows Carries theres nothing there on the car. Then she walks away with my silver sharpie.
Two weeks before the Hershey concert in 2008 I found out I won a meet and greet. I went out to the store to buy her a whole bunch of stuff. The meet and greet was backstage. We walked down to the room and waited outside. One of my balloons deflated, so I gave it to Matthew and said, “Happy Valentines Day.” He had the most dazed and confused look on his face as he said thanks and walked away. Carrie was sick at the time. She coughed on me a few times. I asked her how she was feeling and she gave me a day by day update on her cold andnd she finished with, “And right now, my throat is a little froggy.” And she laughed at herself as her voice cracked. I walk off without my sharpie, again. For the next week and a half I was sick. Thanks Carrie!
I spent days trying to convince my dad to take me to Nashville for the fan club party, opry, and softball game. I finally convinced him and after a long wait, I was on my way to Nashville with my sister and my dad. The fan club party was amazing, I dont think I ever stopped laughing. The Opry was amazing to say the least. The softball game was insane. We got there before the game to get a good spot to meet Carrie. We waited, and waited, and waited … Five minutes before the game starts Carrie came skipping out of the dugout and over to where I was standing. I asked her for a picture, Keith (former tour manager) said no, Carrie said “Of course!” with this huge smile on her face. Little did I know that someone else was taking a picture of my sister taking a picture of me and Carrie. When I got home, I found out I was on the front cover of The Tennessean with Carrie. My sister did not sign up for the New York meet and greet, but she won anyway. It was four hours away, in the middle of the week, we had school, we didn’t have tickets. It was totally an inconvienvent time to win a meet and greet. Eventually we talked our dad into taking us. We were not prepared for this at all. We found out we had won three days before the concert. We found 2nd row tickets for the concert on ebay. We left school early and headed on our adventure. There was a mix up about our meet and greet passes. Turns out they spelled our last name wrong. The person in front of me walks up to Carrie and Carrie is looking at ME. Smiling, waving, and mouthed “Hi!”. Shelton (former body guard) and I were laughing. Shelton talked to me about how he remembered me. Then it was my turn with Carrie. She told me she remembered me, signed my stuff, had a nice little convo. Then it was my sisters turn. She brought this HUGE poster, and I mean HUGE, the poster takes up her entire wall, and walked up to Carrie with it for her to sign. She puts her hands on her hips and says, “Hmmm” and shes trying to figure out the best way to sign this huge thing. Matthew and I were holding opposite sides of the poster, talking about how to have it signed. Then Carrie’s face lit up, her eyes bugged out of her face, she grabs the poster from us, plops down on the floor with the poster and rolls it out with a fast sweep of her hand as if she was a ninja! I was seriously peeing my pants. Everyone was in the room laughing at her on her hands and knees signing this poster. It was the funniest thing I’ve ever seen. Then she pops back up and starts laughing, along with everyone else. We start to walk away and she YELLS “WAIT! YOUR SHARPIE!” I turn around to get it from her and she says, “Im sure I’ve stolen a few of these from you already.”
I went to Nashville this year for the fan club party, Opry, softball game, and CMA Fest, the whole works. Carrie came out after the Opry and took a picture with me through a fence, rofl. The next day was the softball game. We got there early and waited for Carrie to arrive. When she came out she didn’t come over to any screaming fans chanting her name. She skipped around, did interviews, played catch with the Carter Twins (who hogged her ALL night!!) Then we were all shooed away by security guards to go to out seats. Half an hour later me, my bestfriend, Alex, and my friend go to go onto the field. We followed Carrie as she skipped from person to person, from area to area, and she skipped right past us atleast three times. Then engergizer bunny Carrie ran out of battery and stopped skipping around. She came over to us for a group picture. I almost knocked her hat off and Alex stepped on her foot. Then she took a picture with me and whispered to me in a quiet voice with a twang, “It’s nice to see you again by the way.” None of us heard them call her name to go up and bat so she walked away from us confused. Then she hits a double that Alex and I take credit for.
The last Carrie even for the week was at the Convention Ceneter. Now THAT was something. We all looked like a heard of cows running. Once we got our passes we left and came back later to meet Carrie. We came back got in line to meet her. Then it was my turn. She talked abut how nice it was to see me again and said, “You’re everywhere!” with a smile.
