Carrie Underwood on Turning 30: People Expect You to Be an ‘Old Lady’
Country star Carrie Underwood spent her recent 30th birthday eating alone after her husband, ice hockey player Mike Fisher, fell ill with a bout of influenza.
The singer is currently on the third North American leg of her year-long Blown Away world tour, which began last May (12), but she was given a two-day break to mark her age milestone on 10 March (13) and she planned to head back home to Nashville, Tennessee to spend much-needed quality time with Fisher.
However, the birthday girl’s dream date quickly fell apart after her husband fell ill.
She tells People magazine, “I was like, ‘I only have 48 hours. I want to do my laundry and go out to dinner.’ But Mike got the flu, so I ended up eating vegan pizza. By myself. I was like, ‘I’m not mad at you. I do not want you going anywhere, because I know you feel awful. But I do expect a redo!’”
Underwood had to depart for Europe the next day and her delayed birthday “redo” may have to wait a while – she wraps up her live shows in Abbotsford, Canada on 23 May (13).

She’s beautiful, has a thriving singing career, and a hunky hockey-playing husband. Country superstar Carrie Underwood seems to have it all, especially when it comes to her marriage!
The blond bombshell is on the cover of this week’s People magazine and is opening up about how she keeps her relationship with hubby Mike Fisher so hot. Their secret? Subway!
That’s right, the dynamic duo likes to hit the famous sandwich franchise, and, according to Underwood, they’ve been going there so often that she should have a VIP card. She said, “We called it ‘our place’ when we were first dating!”
A relationship with two stars in the household is certainly tough to manage, but the sexy singer is committed to her hubby. She added, “When you make that promise to somebody and you stand before God and your family and friends, you’ve got to do everything that you possibly can to make that work.”

Carrie Underwood has been living on a bus for her sell-out “Blown Away” tour for the better part of eight months now.
But even while on the road she has constant motivation for staying in shape: her hard-bodied husband, NHL star Mike Fisher.
“Even when he’s like, ‘I’m so out of shape,’ he still has a six-pack,” she tells PEOPLE in this week’s cover story. “Having Mike there – I want to be a hot wife!”
Although she acknowledges that the frequent distance between them can be challenging, the six-time Grammy-winning singer, 30, says she would walk away from her career if it ever started to cause problems between her and Fisher, 32.
“If Mike ever told me he needed me to quit, I’d quit,” she says. “When you make that promise to somebody, and you stand before God and your family and friends, you’ve got to do everything that you possibly can to make that work.”
For Underwood and Fisher, who will celebrate their third anniversary in July, making it work means frequent texts, hosting wine-and-grill nights at home with friends and meeting up for casual dates – at Subway.
Says Underwood: ”We called it ‘our place’ when we were first dating!”
