
Country superstar Carrie Underwood is proving to be a worldwide phenomenon. The powerhouse singer recently nabbed four nominations for the upcoming 2012 World Music Awards, which is the only awards show to “honor the best-selling and most popular recording artists from every single continent,” according to Marlins.com. For the first time ever, the epic live event will take place at Marlins Park in Miami, Fla. before 40,000 concertgoers for what is being labeled as “the ultimate international music event of the year.” The event kicks off on Thursday, December 20 and will be broadcast in over 180 countries.
Underwood, whose latest award-winning platinum album Blown Away is making quite a splash in Country music, is up for “World’s Best Female Artist,” “World’s Best Video” for her No. 1 single “Good Girl,” “World’s Best Song” (for “Blown Away”) and “World’s Best Album” (for Blown Away). The Oklahoma belter will face off against some fiercely stiff competition in these categories, including Taylor Swift, Rihanna,Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears and Madonna. Based on sales merit, the nominees include an eclectic range of artists, from Country music’s Jason Aldean and Lady Antebellum to P!nk,Justin Bieber, Green Day and jazz legend Tony Bennett. As a fan voted awards show, the winners will accurately reflect the most popular worldwide superstars. Additionally, for 48 hours non-stop, fans will be able to behold exclusive videos and photos from backstage and at rehearsals online. This gives consumers an inside look at the hard work and dedication of music’s brightest artists and musicians.
